Head Rent, female, white 33, single b. Missouri Letter, Emma, partner, female, white 33, single b. IL In 1910 Census she was enumerated in the household of her brother, Albert. She was 22, single, working as telephone operator. According to Nancee Letter, wife of Jack, Emma never had any children. Interesting info re Tom Letter, Gainesville (near), tX, grandson of Albert and son of Elmer Letter. Emma Letter married Alford Joseph Galli out in CA. Apparently, Hilda and John Schoenborn came to CA also, as did Roland Wuertz, and possibly his mother, Emma Fietsam Wuertz. Alford Galli was somehow connected to the movie industry -- Tom Letter did not know exactly how, but thought he might have been an extra/stunt man/???? Emma started a poultry farm, raising chickens and turkeys. Tom said that during the 1930's she shipped a turkey back to his family. The turkey weight 75 lb (???) when it started the trip, and was considerably thinner when it arrived in IL. I have a copy of Emma's death certificate. LETTER, Emma (I30124596448)

362 Much research had been done on the family of Peter Lemay, but no trace of his family or his origin could be found. The first information located was in Louisa Co., va in 1742, when his son Charles Lemay was serving as administrator of his deceased father's estate, and selling part of the land to thomas Underwood. A theory has been suggested by Mary Gregg, of Austin, tX: In THE EXECUTIVE JOURNALS, COUNCIL OF COLONIAL VA, Mrs. Gregg found: May ye 28th, 1702 ... Peter May, a French Refugee by his Petition to his excellencie setting forth yt said May came into this Country in ye Ship Nasaw Catp. Richd Troguan Commandr along with sevll other french Refugees Sent heither by his maty and that after his coming in one Mr. Daniell Brabant did promise to take care of him but afterwards carried him to Court and their bound him for five yeares and then sold him, and praying redress therein Ordered that yt Compalint of ye said May be Referred to ye Court King William County yt Justice be doe ye Petitioner in ye Matter by him Represented...... In HUEGENOT EMIGRATION TO VIRGINIA by Brock, there is a passenger list of the Nasseau but the name of Peter May is not shown. However, listed is: Mr. Daniel Braban, sa femme, 3 enfants, 1 garcon. Nevertheless, Peter May stated that he had come on the "Nasaw" and that Mr. Daniell Brabant had promised to take cae of him. It would seem that peter is the "garcon" in the Brabant listing, meaning, in French, a young boy. (The name "Brabant", in the ship listing is spelled without an added "t". From this document it would seem that after their arrival, Mr. Brabant had decided to sell Peter for five years of servitude, and now, Peter was in court seeking to have the indenture annulled. No records are available to show whether or not hehad to serve the five years because of a courthouse fire in King William Co, in which all recordds were destroys. In MEMORIALS OF THE HUGUENOTS IN AMERICA, it says, "Where the French name was preceded by the definite article "la" 'Le" "de" or "du", meaning of or from, these prefixes have usually been discarded or joined to the name. So, it would seem that explains how the "ke" was not written in the Petition, and shows that Peter May, at a later time made the "le" part of h is name, "Lemay", Peter Lemay owned land in VA, which at the time he bought it may have been in New Kent County, or in Hanover county. In 1720, Hanover County was formed from Mew Lemt Cpimtu, and iin 1742, Louisa Co. was taken from hanover County. The property of Peter Lemay crossed the land between Louisa and Hanover Counties LEMAY, Peter (I30124596950)

379 Occupation, according to Mary D., gencircles, was linen weaver, farmer. First wife was Ann BAHR, b. 29 Sept, 1715 in Ottenbach, Germany. Married 3 June, 1748, in Reischweiler, Palatinate, Germany (HRE) Put info on Peter in wrong place. Check w/ Henry. Re Ken Gillmore's research: Johan Peter was apprenticed to the linenweavers' trade. He came to the American Colonies on 12 Oct., 1741, aboard the vessel Friendship, arriving in Philadelphia. Also aboard this ship was Melchor Baar and members of the Baar family, including Anna Baar, the wife of JP Turney, and Anna Maria Turni, the duaghter of Johan Peter and Anna Baar. It is uncertain at what point Johan Peter transformed his name to Turney - more research neeeded. According to Sarah Elizabeth Cox Waggoner, Peter Turney was a widower with one daughter when he left Switzerland. She states in her book Family and Ancestry, that he formed an acquaintance with Miss Eve Schwartz from near the city of Frankfurt am Main. Soon after their arrival in America they were married and settled in Culpepper Co., VA. he and the children spoke the German language, although there is a tradition that originally, the Turneys were French. If they were, they remained in Switzerland long enough to acquire a thorough knowledge of German. It is also believed that with Peter Turney, two brothers also came over to this country: Mr. Daniel Turney, who settled in PA, and Mr. Adam Turney, who settled in NY. TURNEY, Johan Peter (I30124596693)

383 On the 1880 census, directly under the Hopkins family, is John Turney, 25. Living with him is Andrew J. Hayes, age 24, nephew of John Turney, also AJ Hayes' wife, Tennessee, age 28, and their two children, William R., age 3, and Addie, age 1. According to Shelby Reynolds, granddaughter of John W. 397 Possibly four more children were born to Henry Lance. The first six: Martin, James Jasper, Unknown daughter, Nancy, Leah and Elizabeth were born in South Carolina.
