Re info from Gerry Kaiser Members of the Schoenforn family have usually been of rather stock build, not too tall; the women often have been heavy-set. A number of the Schoenborns are reported to have had a slight impediment in their speech. the older generation were generally hard-working farmers, often barely managing to eke out a living. A number of the schoenborns apparently had musical talent, at least having the ability to play by ear. 1920 Federal Census for CA, Sacramento Co., Dry Creek Township. Galt Town??. SD 3; ED 75, ward 3349, Sheet 5A, 4th St. Schoenborn, John Head. Rents, Male, white, 33, married, can read and write, b. Il, both parents b. Il, Laborer on Farm Hilda, wife, white, female, 32, married, can read and write, b. IL, both parents b. IL (not so) Kate, Daughter, female, white, 6, b. IL Luella, daughter, female, white, 2 11/12 b. IL In the CA birth index, I found the following: Schoenborn, Raymond J. b. 25 Feb., 1920, male, Sacramento County, Mother's maiden name: Letter Bernard, b. 25 April, 1924, Male, San Mateo Co., Mother's maiden name, Letter Lloyd , b. 21 Sept., 1922, male, San Mateo County, mother's Maiden name, Letter In the 1930 Census, Raymond is living with John Letter and his wife in St. Louis In the 1930 Census for IL, Logan co., Lincoln, Louella Sanborn, age 12, is living in the Illinois Institute for Feeble-Minded Children. In 1930, the following Schoenborn children are living in St. John's orphanage: Edward, age 8 Bernard, age 6 Leroy, age 3 This makes me think that John Schoenborn is either dead or very ill, and that hilda had to place out her children. She was alive in 1935 -- re Belleville City directory.

second son, Sidney???? -- died in industrial accident at Alcoa Aluminum, near Rockport, I believe. I have found him in the 1920 census -- on ancestry, he is enumerated as Kirby THOMPSON. Probably Mattie was a Thompson. They are listed w/ Thompson, AD; wife, Blanch; and daughter, Dorothy. On the actual page, "Hays" is inserted above Kerby's name. 1920 US Census for Jackson County, TX, pct 2 Thompson (Hays), Kerby, 21, b. TN - occupation looks like "operatator" Mattie, 23 Emrine (??) 2 6/12. Is Emrine, if that is her name, the child who died? On further investigation, I think this is Herman Newt! 1930 Census for TX, Matagorda County, Justice prct 3, ED 161-8; SD - 28, p. 11B, lines 92-85 (they are misidentified in ancestry's indexing system. However, the actual census gives them as Kirby Hayes and family; a.c has Kirby Hamm! Hayes, Kirby, head, rents, had radio, male, white, 31, married at 17, born TN, both parents b. TN, Farmer Mattie, wife, female, white, 33, married at 20, b. TX, both parents b. TX (I think this is wrong), Herman, son, male, white 12, in school, could read and write (this fits with the child in 1920 Emrine b. TX, father b. TN, mother b. TX Barth - son, white, male, six, not in school.
