  Will of John Mahaffey: State of South Carolina, Greenville District In the name of God Amen, I John Mahaffey of the State and district aforesaid being of perfect mind and memory but weak of body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do therefore make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament that is to say first I Recomment my Soul to God who gave it and my body to be buried in a decent Christian manner. Touching my worldly Estate wherewith God hath blessed me after the payment of my juyst debts I Will and bequeath it in toto without any reservations to my beloved White Phebe Mahaffey during her natural life or widowhood (viz) all my lands and Tenements live stock Furniture and utensals of every discrption cash in hand notes Bonds debts due to me etc. The said Phebe to enjoy without let hinderance or control the ad Estate witha ll its rents profits issues etc dureing as aforesaid the term of her life or widow hood but at the death or at the marriage of my said whife Phebe Mahaffey it is then my will and desire that all my Estate both Real and personal, with its profits rents debts etc as it my then be shall be sold on a credit of 12 months or longer at the discretion of my Executors and then to be equally divded amongst my children my son Johns part being subject to a deduction of one hundred dollars for the land on which he now resides. = - It is also my will and desire and I do appoint and name my soninlaw Doctr Adam R. Lister and my son Cartor Mahaffey to be my administrators to carry this will into effect and to superintend the concerns of my Estate for the benefit of my said wife Pheba Mahaffey, according to the true intent and meaning hereof, given under my hand and seal this 12th day of March one Thousand Eight hundred and twnwety three John Mahaffey SEAL In presence of William Moon Bosdale Snow Probated June 2, 1823 by S.
