Lucy Hall LeMay was born 1801 in VA and died 1861 in TN In Richard Lemay's file is a copy of his will, extracted from Cannon Co. Wills, FHL film, p. 87 (this is a typescript --- I expect it is anextract or copy of the original. did they have typewriters in 1862? R. U. LAMAY/Last Will & Testament In the Name of God, Amen. I RICHARD U. LEMAY of the County of Cannon and State of Tennessee being of sound mind and considering the uncertainty of this Frail and Transtory Life do therefore make ordain publish and declare this to be my Las (sc) will & Testament that is to Say after all my Lawful debts are paid as hearinafter (sic) provided for the Residue of my Estate Real and personal I give and bequeath and dispose of as follos (To wit) to my beloved wife the Land and appurtenances situated thereon on which we now Reside being the Same I perched (omission) Richard G. Price containing about one hundred Acres lying in the County and State afforesaid in Lieu of my Said wifes right of dower Together with all my house hold and Kitchen furnature and all the Live Stock and farming Implements during the Term of her natural Life and after her deth to my Son Richard N. Lemay To my Son George E. the Tract of one hundred and thirty Five Acres of Land that I perched (omission Willis Couth known as the Willis Couch Tract deed of conveyance bears date 27th Decr 1847 being in Said county and State & District. To my Son in Law Thomas G. Wood the ballance unsold of a 300 acre Tractt that I perched of James L. Essary on the 29tj day of September 1851. For Greater Certainty Reference is had to the deed of conveyane from Said Essary to me being on the day and date afforesaid Lying in Said county and State nivil District No 5 provided that Said Thomas G. Wood Shall pay all my just bets but if he Sould not choose to pay my Said debts then and that Event I direct that the ballence of Said Essary tract of Land now containing about 261 acres be sold by my Execvutor and the procedes to my son-in-law Thomas G. Wood on certain conditions the balence unsold of a 300 acre ract of Land that I perched of jas L. Essary on the 29th Day of Se[t. 1851 (To wit) 281 acres more or less Ly8ing & bing in said County and State Civil district No 5 and specified in Said will more particularly and whareas on the 9th day of April 1861 I sold and conveyed said Tract of Land of 281 acres by deed with general warenty to Thomas G. Wood For the consideration set forth in said deed for greater certainty as to Said Tract of Land Reference is made to said deed - Now I do therefore by this wrighting which I ahearby declaire to be a codicil to my last will & Testament & to be Taken as a part thareof order and declaaare that the bequeath I made to Thos. G. Wood by said Will so fare as the bequeath of the 281 acre Tract of land on certain conditions therein set forth by and the same is Revoked and Annulled and For nothing (illegible) For the Reasons & sao\id Tramsfer amd Sale pof Said :amd to Said Wood by deed as before stated but as to all the other bequeath and therein name & directions given is hearby Reaffirmed and Ratified by me and Lastly it is my desire that this Codicil be annexed to and made a part of my Last Will & Testament as appears and to intents & purposes. In witness whereof I have hearunto subscribed my name by making my marks this 4 day of July, 1861. his Richard U. - X -- Lemay (seal) mark the above written Instrument was subscribed by said Richard U. Lemay in our present and acknowledged by him to each of us and we (p. 171) at the Testators Request and in his presents have signed our names as witnesses hearto. James L.
